Nickoson medals as Surge shoot low round of the spring in Laker Invitational

Concord, OH -- Cincinnati State freshman Matt Nickoson finished as the first place medalist in the Lakeland Laker Invitational with a 72 (+2) as the Surge golf team finished with a score of 309 at Little Mountain Golf Course.

Cincinnati State freshmen golfers Austin Kyle and Matt Nickoson led the Surge with rounds of 77 at the Columbus State Tournament held at Bent Tree Golf Club.

"When these two guys go out and shoot well in the same round it sets the tone for the tournament,"says Coach Scott Webb. "They were able to do that today."

Eric Howard battled the cold and windy Sunday afternoon to shoot an 82. Ricky Dumont recorded the Surge's fourth score with a 91.

As a team, Cincinnati State finished in 3rd place with a team score of 327. Owens Community College won the event with a combined score of 308.

Nickoson and Kyle finished in a tie for 3rd place in individual competition. Columbus State's Ash Alstadt finished with a low round 73(+1).

Eric Howard leads Surge to victory at Miami-Hamilton Invitational

Freshman Eric Howard led the Cincinnati State golf team to victory in the Miami-Hamilton Invitational held at Hamilton-Elks Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

Howard, who bounced back after a score of 90 on Friday, shot a 79(+7). In extremely windy conditions, Howard's score was the lowest of all Cincinnati State players and the second lowest in the field of 67 players. Austin Kyle followed with an 82. Matt Nickoson shot an 84 and Ricky Dumont rounded out the Surge's team score of 330 with an 85.

Kyle leads Surge with 76 in the rain at Surge Invitational

Cincinnati State freshman Austin Kyle led the Surge scoring with a 76 in the Surge Invitational held at Weatherwax Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.

The event marked the beginning of conference play and featured Owens, Columbus State, Lakeland, Lorain and host Cincinnati State. The teams played Weatherwax's Woodside course and Meadows course.

In extremely wet conditions with on and off rain throughout the round, Kyle shot his lowest round thus far this season. Matt Nickoson continued his solid start to the golf season with a 77. Eric Howard finished with an 80 followed by Ricky Dumont and Jake Ripberger who each shot 83.

As a team, the Surge shot a 316 and finished the event in 4th place.

Owens Community College's Blaze Hogan recorded the low round of the day with a 3-under 69. As a team, Owens tied the conference record for lowest team score in an 18 hole event with a 284.

The five OCCAC teams will return to action on Friday in the OCCAC South Tournament which will be held on Weatherwax's Highlands and Valley View courses. The first group is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 am.

Surge beat OU-Chillicothe in dual meet on Saturday

The Cincinnati State golf team beat OU-Chillicothe 326 to 349 in Saturday's dual match.

Freshman Matt Nickoson led the Surge to victory with a 76 - the low round of the day. It was the second tournament in a row that Nickoson recorded the low round for the team. After having a disappointing front nine, Eric Howard bounced back with a 38 on the back en route to an 81. Austin Kyle shot an 83 and sophomore Jake Ripberger rounded out the Surge scoring with an 85.

"As a team, we improved from the week before," Head Coach Scott Webb said. "We set the goal to putt better and improve our overall team score each week and the guys went out and did it."

The Surge will have 11 days between matches before hosting the OCCAC South Tournament on April 11th and April 12th at Weatherwax Golf Course. The OCCAC South Tournament marks the first conference competition of the spring season.

Nickoson finishes in 3rd; team shoots 337 in first tournament of spring season

North Bend, OH -- Cincinnati State freshman Matt Nickoson opened the 2013 spring golf season with a team-low 75(+3) to finish in 3rd place on Saturday in the Mt. St. Joseph Spring Invitational held at Aston Oaks Golf Club.

Nickoson, a graduate from Taylor High School, was consistent throughout the afternoon, shooting 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back. A crucial point in his round came on hole #4, a short par-3 guarded by a lateral water hazard. After his tee shot trickled into the hazard, Nickoson managed to save bogey by converting a 15 foot putt. He went on to shoot 2-under par over his next 9 holes.

"That was big for his confidence. He avoided the big number after an unfortunate bounce and went on a good stretch of holes from that point on," head coach Scott Webb said.

Following Nickoson's 75 for Cincinnati State was Austin Kyle, who fought back to shoot an 81 after a three hole stretch in which he was 5 over par. Ricky Dumont finished with a 90 and Eric Howard shot a 91 to round out the Surge scoring. Cincinnati State, which was the only junior college program in a field featuring twelve NCAA Div. III programs, finished in a tie for 10th place with a team score of 337.

As a team, the Surge struggled on Aston Oak's Par 5s, shooting a combined +20 on the afternoon.

"There were some encouraging signs today. We think Matt is a special player and he proved it today. Austin showed the ability to bounce back and post a solid score after a bad string of holes," said Webb. "Overall, we have to improve on course management and our performance on par fives. We will work on a few things this week and look to improve on our weak points in next week's tournament in Chillicothe."

Cincinnati State will travel to the Ohio University- Chillicothe Invitational next Saturday.

Bialecki finishes third at NJCAA National Championship

Cincinnati State’s Josh Bialecki placed 3^rd in the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association National Golf Tournament held this week at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

Bialecki, a sophomore from Toledo, Ohio, shot a final round score of 76 (+4) for a tournament total of 297 (+9). Entering the final round with the lead, Rockland Community College’s Colby Lewis, who played alongside Bialecki, shot a 75(+3) and finished in 2^nd place with a 293 (+3). Monroe Community College’s Shane Dobesh won the tournament with a final round of 71(-1) and a tournament best 290 (+2).

"I did not have a strong finish but I had a great time playing with Colby. Overall, this week has been a great experience," Bialecki said.

By placing in the top five, Bialecki was named a 1^st Team NJCAA All-American. It marked the second consecutive year Bialecki was named to the All-American team.

"It was a great year for Josh. He is one of the best players we have ever had in my sixteen years of coaching," head coach Scott Webb says. "His work ethic and attitude on and off the course sets the bar high for future players."

Bialecki qualifies for NJCAA National Tournament; team falls by 1 stroke in regional tournament

Cincinnati State sophomore Josh Bialecki finished first in individual competition at the NJCAA Region XII Tournament held at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

Bialecki, whose team lost by one stroke to Vincennes University, finished his final round with a 76 while totaling a three round total of 224 strokes to win the tournament by 9 strokes. Shelby Stewart, Ryan Reedy and Mike Molt from Vincennes finished in a tie for second with tournament totals of 233. Cincinnati State's Danny Gravett finished in fifth with a 234 total.

With the win in the regional tournament, Bialecki qualifies to compete as an individual at the NJCAA National Tournament for the second consecutive year.

"I can't wait to compete and represent my team at nationals. It has been an incredible two years with this group of guys and I want to cap it off with a great performance," Bialecki said.

Bialecki will have three weeks to prepare before traveling to the NJCAA National Tournament which begins on June 5. This year's tournament is held at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

Gravett wins in playoff as Surge claim 1st at OCCAC Tournament

APRIL, 7. 2012 - Cincinnati State sophomore Danny Gravett placed first individually while leading his team to victory at the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Tournament held at Belmont Country Club on Monday afternoon.

Due to heavy morning rainfall, the traditional 36-holes played at the OCCAC Championship was shortened to an 18-hole tournament.

The Surge, who won the event by one stroke over Columbus State Community College, shot a team score of 308. In addition to Gravett's tournament low 74, Lasalle graduate Matt Steins shot a 77 followed by Evan Bryan's 78 and Josh Bialecki's 79.

For Gravett, a graduate from the School for Creative & Performing Arts, the performance at today's tournament marked the first time he finished first in collegiate tournament play.

"It feels great. We really couldn't believe he won and couldn't be more proud. He hasn't won a tournament since he was a little kid," Gravett's father Doug said after his son made the winning put on the 4th hole of the sudden death playoff.

Cincinnati State’s Josh Bialecki shot the lowest individual score of 74 as the Cincinnati State golf team claimed 1^st place with an overall team score of 310 in the Miami-Middletown Tournament held at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Bialecki’s 74, Matt Stiens shot a 77. Danny Gravett finished with a 78 followed by Evan Bryan’s 81 to round out Cincinnati State’s four lowest scores in the non-conference event which had to be moved to Weatherwax Golf Course due to unplayable conditions at Wildwood Golf Club.

Cincinnati State will next travel to Perrysburg, Ohio for the Owens Express Invitational on Sunday, May 6 followed by the 36-hole Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Championship on Monday, May 7. Both tournaments will be played at Belmont Country Club.

The Surge will return to Weatherwax for the Regional Tournament Championship held on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.

Surge place 3rd at Laker Invitational

The Cincinnati State golf team placed 3rd place with a team score of 320 total strokes in Friday's Laker Invitational hosted by Lakeland Community College at Little Mountain Golf Course in Concord, Ohio.

Cincinnati State was led by sophomore Josh Bialecki, who shot a 75. Evan Bryan finished with an 80 followed by Matt Stiens, a LaSalle graduate, who shot 81. Jake Ripberger and Danny Gravett tied for the team's fourth lowest score at 84.

Gravett shots 73 as the Surge finish 3rd in Lorain Invitational

The Cincinnati State golf team finished in 3rd place with a team score of 310 total strokes in Thursday's Lorain Invitational held at Elyria Country Club in Elyria, Ohio.

With rainy conditions and temperatures in the upper 40s, Cincinnati State's Danny Gravett shot his collegiate career best 73, breaking his previous mark of 74 which he shot two weeks prior to today's tournament. Josh Bialecki followed Gravett with a 78. Evan Bryan, a Mason High School graduate, shot 79. Matt Stiens, who returned to the team after spending the early part of the week in the hospital, shot an 80 to round out the lowest four scores for the team.


Columbus State's first place finish was highlighted by Ash Alstadt, who shot the tournament low round of 69, and Lance Clark, who recorded a hole-in-one on the 13th hole.


Cincinnati State will continue conference play on Friday morning in the Lakeland Community College Invitational held at Little Mountain Golf Course in Concord, Ohio. The first group is scheduled to tee off at 9:00am.

APRIL. 13, 2012 - The Cincinnati State golf team finished in 2nd place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference South Tournament held Friday at Middletown’s Weatherwax Golf Course.

A total of 5 strokes separated the top three teams, as the Surge bested Owens Community College by 1 stroke and fell to Columbus State Community College by 4.

"Today was incredibly tight. It is an eye opener for all of the players that one stroke can really make all the difference on any given day," said Cincinnati State golf coach Scott Webb.

"We are playing well as a team. For me personally, it is good to get off to a good start this season. I just want to keep contributing every time I tee it up," said Gravett, a graduate of Cincinnati’s School for the Creative & Performing Arts.

Ash Alstadt of Columbus State shot the low round of the tournament with an even-par 72. Alstadt was also the low scorer in Thursday’s Cincinnati State Invitational at Browns Run Country Club in Middletown.

Cincinnati State will return to action in a non-league event on Saturday, April 14 in the Miami-Middletown Invitational held at Wildwood Golf Club in Middletown. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

APRIL. 12, 2012 - The host team finished in 2nd place in the Cincinnati State Invitational, held Thursday afternoon at Browns Run Country Club in Middletown, Ohio. Cincinnati State's four lowest scoring golfers finished with a combined team score of 311 strokes, 10 behind 1st place Columbus State Community College.

“It was a great day to open up league play. We had great weather and great golf. Our guys played well. We all congratulate Ash on a great round,” Cincinnati State golf coach Scott Webb said.

Cincinnati State will return to action on Friday, April 13 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference South Tournament held at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio. The tournament is set to start at 9:00 am.

Cincinnati State poised for another successful golf season

The Cincinnati State golf team is preparing to open its season with hopes of making its third consecutive trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament.

Cincinnati State returns four players from the team that finished third at the 2011 NJCAA national tournament. The veteran lineup features:

• Danny Gravett, a graduate of the School for Creative and Performing Arts
• Matt Stiens, a graduate of LaSalle High School.
• Cody Ivy, a Mississippi native.
• Josh Bialecki, a Toledo resident who returns to the team after earning NJCAA All-American honors in 2011.

This year's freshmen class includes Wheeler Renfro, a graduate of Turpin Hills High School, and Jake Ripberger, who graduated from Campbell County High School in Alexandria, Kentucky. Both freshmen shot in the 70s during a non-league tournament hosted by Miami University-Hamilton last week. Renfro finished with the low round of the tournament, posting an individual score of 70 strokes.

Scott Webb, head coach of the Cincinnati State golf team, said he believes this squad has the potential to compete for a national title.

"We have had a number of great players come through our program. Josh has the talent, ability and opportunity to accomplish more than any other golfer who has worn the Cincinnati State uniform,” Webb said. “When I look at this year's team with Josh as well as Danny, Matt and Cody providing leadership, I feel really confident we can compete and win a national championship."

Webb said he was particularly encouraged by the team’s early performance during its pre-season scrimmages.

"At Miami-Hamilton, we shot a 292. No team has ever shot a 292 in my 16 seasons as coach,” he noted. “It is early in the year, but the score really shows how good we are and what we are capable of accomplishing."

Cincinnati State won the non-league event by 27 strokes.

On April 12 the Surge will begin league play as it hosts the Cincinnati State Invitational at Browns Run Country Club in Middletown. The tournament is scheduled to begin at noon.

Surge compete at NCR Country Club

OCT, 17. 2011 - The Cincinnati State golf team had the rare chance this past week to do something that few NJCAA Division III teams get to do - compete in the University of Dayton, NCAA Division I Golf Invitational. The event was held on Sunday (practice round), Monday and Tuesday at the legendary NCR Country Club which has hosted the PGA Championship, U.S. Women's Open, and the U.S. Senior Open.

In the opening round, Cincinnati State was paired with Butler University of the Horizon League and the University of Evansville of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Surge held their own firing a team score of 328. Leading the squad was sophomore Danny Gravett with a 78.

"We were nervous as you can imagine off the first tee but the guys hung in there and played very well. We should have finished a little stronger but a few of our players finished their rounds with big numbers but overall, I am proud of the way they performed," Head Coach Scott Webb said.

During second round, the team was paired with Valparaiso University also of the Horizon League and Western Kentucky of the Sun Belt Conference. The Surge bettered their first day score by three shots with a team total of 325. Leading the Surge in round two were sophomores Matt Stiens and Josh Bialecki who each shot a round of 80. 

Cincinnati Stae was up against a strong challenge as all of the players from the NCAA schools were loaded with juniors and seniors. The Surge finished in 15th place while beating Owens Community College - the only other junior college team in the field.

"We knew we were up against the best and to just be here with them was an honor," Webb said. "This event was like playing in the Superbowl for us and that chance comes very rarely."

The Surge will host the Cincinnati State Fall Invitational on October 28th to finish out their successful fall schedule.

Cincinnati State's Evan Bryan finishes first at Ohio Dominican's Kisor Golf Classic

SEPT, 15. 2011 - Freshman Evan Bryan (Mason H.S.) was the first place medalist in individual play at the Ohio Dominican Kisor Classic after beating out Ash Alstadt of Columbus State on the second playoff hole. Bryan shot 77 and 71 in the 36 hole tournament at Cumberland Trail Golf Course while playing in unseasonably low temperatures and a cold morning rain.

As a team, Cincinnati finished fifth in the standings with a team score of 655 total strokes. In addition to Columbus State and hosting Ohio Dominican University, the tournament featured numerous NCAA D-III programs including Cedarville University, Otterbein University, Notre Dame College and Indiana East University.

"We played well. We use our fall season as a tune-up for the spring but it is encouraging to see some of our guys shoot low in tough conditions. The conditions in this tournament were very similar to what it will be like to play when our spring season begins and we're competing to go back to nationals," head coach Scott Webb said.

In addition to Bryan's top notch performance, Cincinnati State sophomore Matt Stiens (La Salle H.S.) finished in a tie for 20th with an 81 and an 83. The Surge will return back to action at the Owens Invitational on Monday, October 10th.

Surge finish 4th at Vincennes Fall Invitational

SEPT. 12, 2011 - Cincinnati State kicked off its fall season by traveling to Vincennes, Indiana to compete against Danville Area CC, Oklahoma City, Kaskaskia, Brescia and hosting Vincennes University.

In the first form of competition since last year's NJCAA National Tournament, sophomores Danny Gravett (Creative and Performing Arts) and Josh Bialecki (Toledo, OH - Wayne H.S.)  finished 4th and 5th individually. Gravett shot consistently posting 76 on both days of the event. Bialecki shot a 75 and a 78.

Cincinnati State finished with a team total of 631 over the two day event which was good for 4th place. The Surge will compete in the Ohio Dominican Invitational beginning on September 15th.

Cincinnati State golf comes in 3rd place in NJCAA D-III National Tournament; marks best result in the golf program's history

JUNE. 10, 2011 - The Cincinnati State golf team had their best result in the programs history finishing third out of thirteen teams in the NJCAA D-III National Tournament.

Cincinnati State entered the final day with a three stroke lead over Monroe Community College (NY) and looked to duplicate the success of the 209 team score that the Surge had recorded the day before. Unfortunately, the two-time defending champions from Monroe had other plans as the team shot a tournament team score low of 294 and a four day total of 1216 strokes as they ran away from the Surge and everyone else in the 4th and final round. Rock Valley Community College shot a 303 final round score to finish in second place with a four day total of 1227. The Surge finished with a total score of 1228 after a final team round of 309.

"Last year, we finished fifth," head coach Scott Webb said. "While we wanted to close the deal today, our guys should feel proud. This is the best finish that Cincinnati State has ever had."

Sophomore Blake Harpenau (St.Xavier) shot a 76 in the final round of the tournament with a four day total of 298 strokes to finish second in individual competition. Claiming the first place honor and leading Monroe to a three-peat title run was Alex Mckee who bested Harpenau by one stroke over the four days with a final round of 72 and a four day score of 297. Cincinnati State's Josh Bialecki also shot a 76 in the final round and finished in a tie for 15th in individual competition. Danny Gravett (School for Creative & Performing Arts) shot a 79 an finished in a tie for 19th. Connor Stookey (Milford) finished in a tie for 26th with a 78 in the final round. Willem Van Den Berg, a native from South Africa, finished in a tie for 41st.

Surge earn second consecutive trip to national tournament

MAY. 8 , 2011 - (Middletown, Ohio) - The Cincinnati State Golf Team advanced to the NJCAA National Championships for the second consecutive year this past weekend by winning the Region XII Golf Championships by five strokes over Vincennes University and Schoolcraft College. The event was played at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio and was a 54-hole championship. Cincinnati State was tied for the lead with Vincennes after the first 18 holes while Schoolcraft trailed by 11. Cincinnati State fired a school record 294 in round two while Vincennes shot 311 and Schoolcraft 317. 2008 and 2009 National Championship qualifiers Vincennes shot a very impressive 301 in the third and final round but came up just short as Cincinnati State clinched the event by shooting a steady 313. The final totals for the event were Cincinnati State 909, Vincennes University 914 and Schoolcraft College 958.

Cincinnati State placed its first three players on the NJCAA All-Region Team (top 5 players in the event) including tournament medallist Connor Stookey who shot 72-71-78=221. NJCAA All-American and 2010 "OCCAC Player of the Year" Blake Harpenau shot 76-72-77=225. First year player Josh Bialecki was third in the event with a 75-73-78=226. Vincennes second year player Chase Smith won in a playoff for fourth place in the Region by shooting scores of 74-83-72=229. Vincennes second year player Travis Whithaus rounded out the All-Region Team in 5th place with scores of 76-80-73=229.

The Surge will compete for the National Championship the week of June 6-10 at the Chautauqua Country Club in Chautauqua, New York. Golf Coach Scott Webb was named as NJCAA Region XII Coach of the Year.

Cincinnati State Surge finish second in OCCAC

MAY. 3, 2011 - The Columbus State Golf Team continued their 2011 league success by taking the OCCAC Championship and also winning outright the OCCAC league title over second place Cincinnati State. The event was held in Perrysburg, Ohio at Belmont Country Club on a soggy and cool day.

Columbus State fired a team score of 626 (320-306) which placed them ahead of Cincinnati State 634 (325-309), Owens 639 (329-309) and Lakeland 726 (371-355).

Andy Henehan of Columbus State won the event posting a 78 and 74 in the two rounds. Josh Biakecki of Cincinnati State was second shooting a 78 and 75.

Columbus State, Owens and Lakeland will now move on to the NJCAA Division II, Region 12 event held at Bedford Valley Golf Course on Sunday and Monday. Cincinnati State will host the NJCAA Division III, Region 12 event in Middletown, Ohio at Weatherwax Golf Course on Sunday and Monday.

OCCAC names two Surge players to first team; narrowly miss “Player of Year” honor

MAY, 2011 - Josh Bialecki and Blake Harpenau were named to the OCCAC All-League First Team after playing standout golf in the 2011 season. Bialecki shot a Cincinnati State team low of 424 strokes in six rounds of competition. Sophomore Blake Harpenau followed Bialecki with a total of 428 strokes.

The OCCAC Golf "Player of the Year" was as close as it has ever been this year as three players tied after all events with the same total score. Those players were Ben Tuttle and Drew Leopold of Columbus State as well as Josh Bialecki of Cincinnati State.

All players went to the first hole and all hit the green on their second shot on the 420 yard par 4. Tuttle and Leopold both two putted and Bialecki lipped out a two footer to put him out of the playoff.
Tuttle and Leopold went to the next hole which was a 180 yard par three over a hazard. Tuttle hit the green and Leopold came up short and went into the hazard. Tuttle went on to two-putt the hole giving him the "Player of the Year" honor.

Harpenau's 73 ties for low round of tournament

APRIL. 16, 2011 - On a very cold, wet and windy day, the Cincinnati State Golf Team fired a team score of 312 in a play 5 count 4 format en route to a second place finish (out of 12 four-year insitiutions). AU Wayne shot a 311 to win the event at Wildwood Golf Club in Middletown, Ohio.

Blake Harpenau fired an impressive 73 and tied for the low round of the event. Connor Stookey shot 78 as did Josh Bialecki. Tyler Hutson shot 83 and Danny Gravett shot 84. Playing as an individual for the Surge were Willem Van den Berg firing a 78, Justin King recording an 84 and Matt Stiens coming in with 86.

Cincinnati State currently stands second in the league standings behind Columbus State.

Harpenau named OCCAC Player of Week

APRIL. 15, 2011 - Sophomore Blake Harpenau earned OCCAC Player of the Week honors after impressive performances in harsh, early season conditions.Harpenau totalled a league low 115 strokes during the first two events. Harpenau shot a 79 and then a 36 in a down pour at the shortened tournament at Columbus State.

Surge begin preparation to recapture last year's success

MAR, 2011- The 2011 Spring golf season should prove to be an interesting and rewarding one for the Cincinnati State Golf Team who will try to build off of the success of last year's National Tournament qualifying team. This year's version of the Surge will once again be taking on OCCAC and NJCAA Division III competition with a team consisting of returning sophomores Blake Harpenau and Connor Stookey as well as incoming freshmen Daniel Gravett (Cincinnati School of Performing Arts) and Matt Stiens (LaSalle).

"I think from top to bottom we are even better than last year's team," Head Coach Scott Webb says.

The men's golf team will return to action on Friday (1:00 PM), March 25th and Saturday (12:00 PM), April 2nd in scrimmages against Schoolcraft CC (MI) and Lakeland CC.

Surge finish strong in national golf championship

The Cincinnati State golf team placed fifth in a field of 13 schools in the national championship held in early June at the Chautauqua Country Club in western New York.

Monroe Community College from Rochester, N.Y., the defending champs, won the tournament again this year with a team score of 1,217 strokes over four days of play.

Cincinnati State finished with a team score of 1,245, behind Rock Valley College (1,223), Sandhills Community College (1,231) and Nassau Community College (1,244).

The 2010 Cincinnati State golf team features five first year players and three returning players from the 2009 squad, including team captains (and brothers) Chris Endres and Adam Endres and newcomer Blake Harpenau.

In the national tournament, Harpenau was the team’s low scorer with a four-day total of 304, followed by Brian Warken (307), Connor Stookey (323) and the Endres brothers (325 each).

The Surge made it to the four-day National Junior College Athletic Association National Championships in dramatic fashion, winning the Region 12 contest in late May by one stroke.

It took birdies by three members of the Cincinnati State team on the final hole at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown to pull off the regional victory over a hard-charging Vincennes University. Harpenau led the Surge with a 78-78-75 (231) in windy, cold conditions. Adam Endres fired a 78-75-79 (232); Stookey shot 78-79-81 (238). All three players were named to the NJCAA All-Region Team. Also scoring for Cincinnati State were Warken 78-83-82 (243), Chris Endres 84-89-83 (256), Tyler Hutson 82-96-86 (264), Ian Prats 85-85-82 (252) and Jamie Detellem 82-88-85 (255).

Head Coach Scott Webb, currently in his 14th season at Cincinnati State, called this team “one of the best I have had."

Harpenau was named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He averaged a score of 74 throughout the season, and recorded the low round of the year, a 68. He is one of two players to receive the award in Coach Webb's 14 years at Cincinnati State.

Webb, for his part, received Region XII Coach of the Year honors from the NJCAA.

Warken and Harpenau named NJCAA All-Americans

JUNE, 2010 - Cincinnati State golfers Blake Harpenau and Brian Warken earned All-American honors after a standout 2010 season which ended with the Surge placing 5th in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Blake Harpenau's overall season average was 76.21 (1st in OCCAC) and his average at the national tournament was 76.00 which ranked 10th overall in individual competition. His low score of the year was a 4-under par 68 at the Columbus State tournament held at Northstar Golf Club. The 68 was the lowest in Cincinnati State golf history.

Brian Warken's overall season average was an 80.33 and his average at the national tournament was 76.75 which ranked 14th in individual competition. He recorded his best score of 74 on the national stage in the NJCAA Tournament at Chautauqua Golf Club.

Cincinnati State All-Americans

Cincinnati State is proud to have five All-Americans. To become an All-American, you must qualify for the NJCAA National Championships as a individual or as a part of a team. You must then place amongst the top 15 players in the National Championships. In 2011, Blake Harpenau earned First Team All-American status by placing in a tie for second in the 2011 NJCAA National Championships.
